Best AI boyfriend app for iPhone: what the App Store offers, and how to choose.

An AI boyfriend app is a chat app where the AI plays a male romantic partner you can text, flirt with or talk through your day with. Most of the AI boyfriend apps on the iPhone App Store are new and lightly reviewed, so we compared seven with clear US listings. Every app fact comes from the developer’s own App Store listing.

Quick answer

The best AI boyfriend app depends on what you want from him. For slow-burn romance stories with ready-made male characters, look at Him. For one boyfriend who remembers you and can call you, look at Kindroid or Replika, and at Nomi if voice messages are enough. For designing his look from scratch and getting selfies and short videos of him, try Duple. Duple is rated 17+, has no live voice calls and is not built for explicit roleplay.

Transparency: Duple publishes this page and makes one of the apps compared, so this is not an independent ranking. We did not run scored hands-on tests of the other apps. Competitor facts come from each app’s US App Store listing, checked October 17, 2026. Duple facts come from Duple’s App Store listing, its published policies and the app itself. What an AI boyfriend app is

An AI boyfriend app gives you a male AI character to chat with as a partner: good-morning texts, flirting, venting after a long day, or a running love story. He is fictional. The app generates his replies, and some apps also generate his photos, short videos or voice.

On the iPhone App Store, three kinds of app answer the search:

Character libraries such as Character.AI and Talkie also show up for this search. They are built for browsing many characters rather than one ongoing partner, so we cover them in our Character.AI alternatives guide instead.

What 22 App Store results for “AI boyfriend” show

Most AI boyfriend apps on the App Store are young and have few reviews. On October 17, 2026 we pulled the top 22 US results for “ai boyfriend” from Apple’s public iTunes Search API, which approximates App Store search, then opened each app’s US listing to record its age rating, ratings count and in-app purchases.

What this means for you: a high star average on a new boyfriend app often rests on a few hundred ratings or fewer. Before you subscribe, look at how many ratings it has, who the developer is, its privacy label and how its subscription renews. These are the checks in our list before you download.

How we picked these seven: the three boyfriend-branded apps rated 17+ or older with the most US ratings in our search snapshot (iBoy, Him and AIBoy), the general companion apps in that snapshot that market memory (Kindroid and Replika), Nomi because its listing names AI boyfriends directly, and Duple. We left out Husby (a boyfriend app rated 4+), smaller boyfriend apps with 791 ratings or fewer, and character libraries. This is a dated snapshot, not a ranking.

Which AI boyfriend app fits you

You want a romance story, not a blank chat

Him is the clearest fit. Its listing describes curated male characters, from a cold CEO to a best friend, with storylines that change with every message. It is rated 17+ for frequent sexual content or nudity, and it sells Rings and Drops rather than a subscription.

You want him to remember you

Memory comes up again and again in AI boyfriend discussions. One example: a Reddit thread on Google’s first page for “best AI boyfriend app” asks for an AI boyfriend with real long-term memory. Nomi lists short- and long-term memory. Kindroid lets you write his backstory and key memories. Replika says it remembers your people, plans and goals. Duple has long-term memory across conversations, and its Privacy Policy says you can reset or delete those memories. These are the developers’ claims, not our measurements. For how memory claims usually work, read how AI companion memory works.

You want to design him yourself

In Duple, you flip the gender switch, pick his region on a globe, set his age with a slider, and shape his look and style. You can create more than one companion and swipe between them. Kindroid leans on a written backstory, and AIBoy lets you personalise his appearance, mood, tone of voice and biography. Him and iBoy are built around their own characters instead. For the full set of creation steps, with screenshots, see how to create an AI girlfriend on iPhone; the flow is the same for him.

Creating a male companion in Duple starts with choosing his region. Duple app, October 2026.

You want to see him

Duple is built around how your companion looks: generated selfies, personalised pictures, Live Selfies (short generated videos), outfit design and a saved library. Nomi and Kindroid both list generated selfies, and Replika lists image generation. Him, AIBoy and iBoy do not list photos in their App Store text. If video matters most, our guide to AI girlfriend video apps explains clips versus calls, and the same checks apply to a male companion.

You want to hear his voice

Kindroid lists real-time voice calls, and Replika lists voice and video calls. Nomi lists voice messages. Duple is text chat only and has no live voice calls. If hearing him matters most, pick Kindroid or Replika, not Duple.

You want a lower age rating or less explicit framing

On October 17, 2026, Duple was rated 17+ on the US App Store. Him, Nomi, Kindroid, Replika, AIBoy and iBoy were rated 17+. In Apple’s API, Duple carries the same 17+ band as the others. If you want explicit roleplay, Duple is not the right app.

The weekly-plan trap

Kept for a full year, a weekly AI boyfriend subscription costs roughly five to thirteen times more than the same app’s annual plan. We multiplied each weekly price listed on October 17, 2026 by 52 weeks:

Weekly plans make sense for trying an app for a week or two. If you plan to stay, the annual plan is far cheaper. App Store subscriptions and trials renew automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends, as AIBoy’s listing spells out. You can do that in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. For more price comparisons, see how much AI companion apps cost.

Where Duple fits, and where it doesn’t

Duple is an iPhone app for creating your own companions. You can make him (or her) from scratch, chat by text, get generated selfies and Live Selfies, make personalised pictures, design outfits and keep favourite images in one library. You can create a roster of companions. Duple is free to download. Duple Plus costs $6.99 a week, $14.99 a month or $69 a year on the US App Store, and Dokens, Duple’s in-app currency, start at $1.99.

What Duple is not: it has no live voice calls, it is not built for explicit roleplay, and it has no library of ready-made romance storylines like Him. It is new, with no US App Store ratings yet, and it is iPhone only (iOS 26 or later). Every Duple companion is fictional, and Duple is not therapy or a replacement for real relationships.
