Realism comes from more than fluent text

A reply can sound natural and still feel generic. People often describe an AI companion as more personal when it responds to the details they provide, keeps a recognizable style, and gives them ways to shape the experience.

These qualities can make an interaction feel more coherent. They do not mean the AI has feelings, awareness, or a human relationship with you.

Four things to look for

Personalization

Can you shape the companion's appearance, background, style, or preferences?

Useful context

Does the app use details you choose to share in ways that make later interactions more relevant?

Consistent experience

Do the voice, tools, and controls feel coherent from one session to the next?

Clear boundaries

Does the product explain that its companions are AI and give you clear ways to manage your account and content?

What realism cannot promise

AI can misunderstand, lose context, or produce an inaccurate answer. A companion may sound caring, but it does not have human emotions or consciousness. Treat AI as entertainment and conversation—not as a substitute for professional care or people in your life.

How Duple approaches personalization

Duple is an iPhone AI companion app. You can create and personalize a companion, chat by text, generate images, design outfits, and save favorites. The experience is intended for entertainment and creativity; the companions and images are fictional.
