What AI girlfriend chat is

AI girlfriend chat is a conversation with a large-language-model character set up as your girlfriend. You send a message, she replies in her own voice and personality, and the app keeps some memory so the next chat picks up where the last one left off. Most apps add generated photos; a few add voice or short videos.

The chat is the product. Pictures and features get the screenshots on the App Store, but day to day you are mostly texting: about your day, a running joke, a bit of flirting, something on your mind at 11pm. That’s why the things that matter most are boring ones: how many messages you get, how well she remembers, and how natural the replies feel.

What 21 App Store results for “ai girlfriend chat” show

On October 27, 2026 we pulled every result Apple’s US App Store search returned for “ai girlfriend chat” (21 apps), then read each listing’s description, age rating and in-app purchase list.

• 20 of 21 carry Apple’s top age band (17+ in Apple’s API). One is 4+. Duple, also 17+, did not appear in these results.
• The name is the keyword. 14 titles contain “girlfriend” and 16 contain “chat”.
• Memory is the top promise. 12 descriptions mention memory or remembering you. 9 mention voice messages or calls. Only 1 mentions video.
• Many are brand new. 8 of the 21 were first released in 2026. The median app has 315 US ratings, and 9 have fewer than 100. Four have more than 5,000, led by EVA AI Soulmate (24,666).
• Free to download, paid to keep talking. All 21 are free. Five sell “unlimited” messages or chats as a paid perk and one charges coins per message.

Free messages, limits and price: what “free chat” really means

Every app in the snapshot is free to download. Whether the chat is free is a different question, and the listings rarely answer it.

• No listing states a free daily message number. Not one of the 21 descriptions says how many messages a free user gets. You find out when you hit the wall.
• Messages are a paid perk. HeyBabe, Intimate, Anima AI, Lovetta and Mivo list unlimited messages or chats among their paid features. Amielle charges “Love Coins” per message, which you earn from ads or buy.
• Weekly plans are common. 11 of the 21 show a weekly plan in their in-app purchase list. The cheapest weekly price in each ranges from $1.99 to $9.99, with a median of $6.99.
• Voice and video often cost extra. Heat, for example, lists separate call packs and video packs alongside its subscription.

A practical rule: open the in-app purchases section on the listing before you download, and assume a weekly plan renews every week until you cancel it in iPhone Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. How to have a better AI girlfriend chat

The same app can feel flat or surprisingly good depending on how you use it. These habits help in any app:

1. Set her up properly. A few specific details (where she lives, what she does, how she talks) give the model something to work with. A blank profile gets generic replies.
2. Give her something to answer. “Hey” gets “hey”. “Work was rough, my manager moved the deadline again” gets a real reply and something for memory to hold onto.
3. Repeat what matters. Memory is imperfect in every app. If a name, date or plan is important, mention it again now and then rather than assuming it stuck.
4. Correct her gently. If she gets a fact wrong or drifts out of character, say so in the chat. Pointing it out usually steers the conversation back.
5. Keep it varied. Ask her questions, not just tell her things. Ask for a selfie in a place you talked about. Pick up a thread from yesterday.

Is AI girlfriend chat private and safe?

About a third of the listings promise privacy in some form: HeyBabe says it doesn’t sell chat data, Waifu Chat calls chats “private and encrypted”, and Soft2Wild says conversations “stay private on your device”. Those are the developers’ claims, not audits. Unless an app clearly says otherwise, assume your messages go to the company’s servers so the AI can reply.

• Read the App Privacy label on the listing. It shows which data is linked to your identity and which is used for tracking.
• Check the developer. Nine apps in the snapshot have fewer than 100 US ratings, so there may be little track record to go on.
• Don’t share passwords, card details, your address or other people’s private information with any chatbot.
• Check the age rating fits what you want. Most of these apps are 17+ because they allow mature chat.
• It isn’t therapy. Several listings, including EVA AI, Amielle, Soft2Wild and Duple, say the app doesn’t give professional advice. If you are struggling, talk to a person or a support service.

How AI girlfriend chat works in Duple

Duple is an AI companion app for iPhone where you create your own companion instead of picking from a catalogue, choosing her look, background and style during setup. After that it’s a chat thread, like texting anyone else.

• Text first. You type, or tap the mic to dictate. There are no voice calls.
• She remembers. Long-term memory is standard, so ongoing threads (a job, a trip, a friend’s name) carry over. See Duple memory.
• Pictures and Live Selfies in the chat. Ask for a selfie, or use the picture tray to pick a shot, and switch on video for a Live Selfie, a short generated video. Duple also supports custom images and video.
• More than one. Build a roster of companions and swipe between them.

How we checked

On October 27, 2026 we queried Apple’s iTunes Search API for “ai girlfriend chat” (US store, software, 25 results requested, 21 returned). For each app we recorded the title, US ratings count and release date from the API, and the age rating and in-app purchase list from its US App Store page. Age ratings are the trackContentRating value from Apple’s API, checked October 30, 2026; Apple’s API reports 17+ for apps whose store pages show 16+ or 18+. Apps no longer on the US App Store keep the rating their listing showed on the snapshot date. We read each description for memory, voice or calls, video, unlimited or paid messages, and privacy promises, and checked every count by hand. We did not test competitor apps.
