Is Duple safe? Age rating, moderation and deleting your data.

Age rating and age requirements

Duple is rated 16+ on the US App Store (checked October 15, 2026), and its Privacy Policy says Duple is intended only for people aged 16 or older. That is a lower rating than most AI companion apps: Replika, Nomi, Kindroid and Character.AI list 18+ on the US App Store. Read the dated comparison in AI companion comparisons.

Duple does not claim to be an adults-only app. It also says it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

How Duple checks age

During account setup, Duple asks for your date of birth, which it uses to confirm you are at least 16, and asks you to confirm the requirement. The Privacy Policy says it may add further age-assurance measures where the law requires. Duple has not published a more detailed age-verification method, such as ID or face checks, so this page does not claim one.

Your date of birth also shapes the companion options you see. For younger users, Duple shows fixed adult age groups instead of an exact age.

Companions are fictional adults

The Privacy Policy states that every AI-generated companion is a fictional adult aged 21 to 40. When you create a companion, you choose a region and an age on a slider. Duple is not a character catalogue and is not built for unfiltered or explicit roleplay.

Moderation and reporting

Duple’s Privacy Policy says it uses automated content safety screening on chat inputs and outputs, and keeps logs of moderation triggers to detect abuse. Chat images you send can be analysed by a vision model, which also supports moderation.

In the app, you can report a message, an image or a video from its menu in the chat. Duple has not published detailed moderation rules or response times, so this page does not describe them. Automated screening is not perfect, and no moderation system catches everything.

Deleting data and resetting memory

• Reset a companion’s memory. You can reset a companion’s chat history and memories in the app settings at any time. The Privacy Policy says this erases the messages, memories and media associated with that companion.
• Delete a companion. Each companion has a Delete Duple option in its menu, which also frees a roster slot.
• Delete your account. Go to Settings → Delete Account. Deletion of your account and associated active app records begins immediately. The policy notes that some files can persist in backup or CDN storage until routine cleanup, and some records are kept where the law requires. You can contact Duple to follow up.

What Duple does with your data

According to the Privacy Policy, Duple does not sell your personal data and does not collect payment card details (Apple processes payments). Messages and images are processed by third-party AI providers to run the app, and data is encrypted in transit. Read section 4 and section 10 of the policy for the providers and international transfers.

What Duple is not

Duple is an AI companion, not a human, therapist or crisis service. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, contact local emergency services or a crisis line instead of a chatbot.
